Privacy Policy
Letychka ("the app", "we") is an iOS app for anonymous, offline messaging between phones that are physically near each other, over Bluetooth Low Energy. This page explains exactly what data the app handles, where it goes, and what it does not do.
The short version
Letychka has no servers, no backend, no cloud and no accounts. It does not use the internet. Messages travel directly between two phones over Bluetooth. We do not receive, store or see anything you send. We collect no personal data at all.
What we do not collect
- We do not collect, log or transmit any analytics or usage telemetry.
- We have no server, so your messages, photos and voice notes are never sent to us or to any third party. They go only to the nearby phone you are chatting with, over Bluetooth.
- We do not collect your name, phone number, email, contacts or precise location.
- We do not use any third-party tracking SDKs, advertising, advertising identifiers or fingerprinting.
- There is no account system, so there is no profile, password or sign-up.
Data that stays on your device
- Your chosen nickname and your first-use date are stored locally on your device.
- An optional avatar photo, if you set one, is a tiny image shared over Bluetooth with the people right next to you so they can see your photo. It is never uploaded to any server (there is none) and never leaves the local Bluetooth link.
- Chats are stored only on this device, so a conversation is still there when you reopen the app. Nothing is ever written to a server. You can wipe everything anytime in Settings.
- You can wipe everything stored on the device at any time with "Clear everything on this phone" in Settings, or by deleting the app.
Bluetooth
Letychka uses Bluetooth Low Energy to discover other phones running Letychka near you and to exchange messages directly with them. Bluetooth is used solely for this offline messaging. It is not used to track your location. Discovery only works while the app is open on both phones and within Bluetooth range.
Messages, photos and voice notes
Text you send, photos you choose to send (downscaled and compressed) and short voice notes you record are transmitted only over Bluetooth, directly to the nearby person you selected. They are not uploaded anywhere, not stored on any server, and not accessible to us. The other person you message can see what you send them and the nickname you chose, the same as any messenger.
Microphone
The microphone is used only when you choose to record a short voice message to send. Recording happens on your device and the clip is sent only over Bluetooth to the person you selected. It is not stored on any server. If you never record a voice message, the microphone is never used.
Sign in with Apple
Letychka offers optional Sign in with Apple. It is not required and the app works fully without it. If you use it, Apple may share a user identifier and your name with the app. These are stored only on your device. Because the app has no server, they are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can sign out, or use "Delete account", at any time, which removes that local data from your device.
Children
Letychka does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children. The app collects no personal data at all.
Changes
If we update this policy, the date at the top will change.
